Grateful Beyond Words — And Looking Ahead
Today I learned that Anatomy of a Yes: Field Notes from an Organ Donation Advocate in Appalachia finished in the Top 5 on Amazon in both Organ Transplants and Transplant Surgery — and I am honestly humbled.
When I started the journey of writing Anatomy of a Yes, it was never about rankings or making the Amazon top 100 chart. In fact, it started as a simple journal in a 99-cent notebook bought at Walmart after an especially difficult case. It was my way of emotionally processing that case, and the countless others. Then it began to take shape amid the many late nights in ICU rooms, navigating the sacred conversations around organ donation.
Anatomy of a Yes belongs to the donor families who said “yes” in the midst of their heartbreak, to my fellow donor advocates who carry this work in their bones, and to every reader who cares enough to listen. To each of you who has read, shared, supported, or encouraged me on this journey, thank you.
Your support means more to me than numbers ever will.
As we turn the page from 2025 into 2026, my purpose remains simple:
to keep shining light on the sacredness of donation,
to keep elevating donor family and frontline voices,
and to keep telling the truth about what this work really is.
There is more writing coming.
More conversation.
More advocacy.
More heart.
Even if one more person sees organ donation with a deeper understanding because of this work, then it has all been worth it.
Here’s to the year ahead, and to honoring the lives, legacies, and gifts that make donation possible.
🙏💚
